Wedding season has a wonderful way of sweeping you along.
One moment it’s spring, the tulips are just beginning to emerge, and the diary feels reassuringly manageable. The next, you’re surrounded by buckets of roses, endless to-do lists, church aisles to flower, marquees to dress, and alarm clocks set for hours that don’t quite feel human.
It is my favourite time of year. Truly. There is nowhere I’d rather be than creating flowers for the most important days in people’s lives.
But even when you adore what you do, there is something to be said for pausing every now and then.
Last week, in the midst of the wedding season whirlwind, I was very lucky to be treated to a morning at KD Wellness with wonderful Kate. Tucked away in the Bath countryside, what was once a working farm has been thoughtfully transformed into a beautiful wellness retreat, a place designed to help you reset, refresh, recharge and restore your sense of equilibrium.
From the moment I arrived, I could feel myself slowing down.

The surroundings alone are enough to lower your shoulders. Beautifully renovated old barn buildings nestled amongst soft planting, sweeping grasses dancing in the breeze, and peaceful interiors flooded with natural light. It feels a world away from the busyness of everyday life.

As someone who spends most of her days creating beautiful spaces for others, I couldn’t help but appreciate the care and thought that has gone into creating this one.
Kate tailored the facial to my skin’s needs, including a chemical peel designed to brighten and refresh, followed by the most wonderful facial massage using jade rollers. It was one of those rare treatments where you completely lose track of time.
For an hour, there were no emails to answer, no flower orders to place, no wedding logistics to juggle.
Just stillness.

As a small business owner, and now as a mother too, I think it can sometimes feel indulgent to take time for yourself. There is always another task waiting. Another email that could be replied to. Another item on the list.
Yet I left feeling reminded that rest is not a luxury; it is part of the process.
Creating beautiful work requires creativity, energy and presence. We cannot endlessly pour from an empty vessel.
I drove home feeling lighter, calmer and genuinely rejuvenated, ready to throw myself back into the coming weeks of weddings with renewed energy.
As I write this, there are flowers conditioning in the workshop for another busy weekend ahead. The season rolls on, as it always does.
But I am learning that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause.
Even if only for a morning.

And if that morning happens to involve a beautiful facial, tranquil surroundings and an hour of complete calm, then all the better.
